Stray Bullets Strike Window of Children's Bedroom in Somerville

Police are investigating after stray bullets smashed the window of a bedroom where children were sleeping in Somerville, Massachusetts on Sunday night.

Somerville Police said they first got the call about shots fired on Mystic Avenue around 10:15 p.m. When officers arrived they found damage to windows in the back of 7 Memorial Road and discovered that bullets hit a bedroom window, where children were sleeping.

The father of those three girls, told NBC10 Boston & NECN that the bullet shattered the first layer of double-paned glass but did not make it through to the room.

The girls, ages 7 to 14, are shaken but unhurt.

"Very, very frightening," he said. "The kids were traumatized."

Kojo Nimako has lived in the neighborhood with his children for 14 years. He said what happened is frightening and now he’s thinking about moving. 

"It was pretty much scary. We really thank God everything went OK," Nimako said.

Police also found 10 9mm casings in the parking lot at Central Convenience at 460 Mystic Ave. nearby.

No injuries were reported, police said. The case remains under investigation.
