These Small New England Cities Are Among the Least Diverse in the US: Study

Of the bottom 50 cities, 42% were cities in New England

A new study has found some small cities in New England to be some of the least diverse in the country.

According to a study by WalletHub - which ranked 501 cities in the U.S. based on socioeconomic, cultural, household and religious diversity - Bangor, Maine is the second least diverse city in the country, with only Provo, Utah ranking below.

Rochester and Keene, New Hampshire also made it into the bottom 10 list at ranks fourth and fifth, respectively, followed by Barre, Vermont at number six and Westbrook, Maine at number nine.

Of the bottom 50 cities, 42% were cities in New England, the majority of which were in Maine, with a few others in Vermont and New Hampshire. In the five least racially and ethinically diverse cities, Laconia, New Hampshire, and Bennington and Barre, Vermont claimed ranks third, fourth, and fifth.

In contrast, Boston, Massachusetts was ranked the 20th most diverse large city, with Stamford and Bridgeport, Connecticut making the top 10 most diverse mid-sized cities and Danbury and Norwalk, Connecticut ranking fourth and fifth for the most diverse small cities.
