Sunny Mornings, Showery Afternoons

The highest amounts were across Connecticut and Rhode Island – nearly 3” of rain fell in some areas

We saw some pretty high rain totals over the last 24-36 hours. The highest amounts were across Connecticut and Rhode Island – nearly 3” of rain fell in some areas! Saturday, most of that rain moved into Maine and the outer Cape. Central New England was lucky enough to enjoy a few hours of sunshine!

Sunday will start off dry and sunny for most. Unfortunately we are under an Omega block. If you take your garden hose, put a kink in it, the water stops flowing. That’s what’s going on in the Atmosphere and our Jet Stream. The system that brought us rain will sit over us for days. That low will continue to weaken, but it’s enough of a trigger we’ll see afternoon showers almost every day this week!

Most days will start off dry. Temperatures will climb into the 50s (and perhaps the low 60s). That sunshine will be fuel for afternoon showers. Sunday through Friday – out days start sunny and will end with cloudy, cooler and showery weather. Above >2,500’, there could be some minor snow accumulations in Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.

Next weekend, is Mother’s Day! The forecast doesn’t look very promising. There could be a similar storm system (to what we had Friday) paying us a visit. It’s still early, but if you have outdoor plans, make sure you have a back-up plan!
