Target Announces Plans to Open 2 Small-Format Stores in Greater Boston Area

Target has announced plans to expand in the Greater Boston area with the opening of two small-format stores next year.

The retail giant will open one store in the Porter Square neighborhood in Cambridge — near the intersection of Massachusetts and Somerville avenues. The other small-format store will be in Burlington on Route 3A, just inside the Interstate 95 loop.

Company officials say the two locations will be Target's sixth and seventh small-format stores in the area. Target also announced plans to open a Roslindale store in March and a Medford store in July 2018.

The exact date of the store openings have not been determined but both are expected to employ approximately 75 team members.

"With the addition of our Porter Square and Burlington stores as well as our new Roslindale and Medford locations, Target will be able to serve thousands more guests in the Boston area in 2018 with shopping experiences unique to each neighborhood," said Mark Schindele, senior vice president, Properties, Target. "Boston is a priority city for growth and investment at Target, and our small-format stores offer local guests the ease and inspiration of a curated assortment alongside a pickup point for online orders."
