Steel Being Lifted by Crane at TD Garden Crashes to Ground in ‘Incredibly Loud' Incident by Bobby Orr Statue

It comes the same day that a falling piece of construction debris hit a woman in Boston's North End

A load of steel being lifted by a crane at a construction site at TD Garden crashed to the ground Thursday, bringing police to the site.

No one was hurt in the incident, but witnesses said it was loud and scary. It comes the same day that a falling piece of construction debris hit a woman in an unrelated incident in Boston's North End, leaving her with life-threatening injuries.

The TD Garden crane crash at about 3:20 p.m. brought out Boston police, and where metal debris could be seen on the ground next to a damaged truck at the construction site near the famous statue of Bruins legend Bobby Orr.

"This afternoon as a load of steel was being lifted off a delivery truck, it dislodged and fell back onto the truck inside the job site. No one was injured. We are currently working with OSHA to review the situation," said a statement from construction management firm John Moriarty & Associates, referring to the Occupational Safety & Health Administration.

Surveillance video from a hotel across the street shows the beams falling from the crane.

Witnesses said they heard a crash and saw steel beams crashing to the ground.

"It was incredibly loud, traffic stopped for a minute ... instinct kicked in and I just ran away as fast as I could," said Michael Sallot, a tourist who was there to see the Orr statue.

Leanne Brum, who works nearby, said the incident was "crazy."

"We didn't know what it was we all ran to the windows and we saw the beams crash down. They kind of cracked the truck and everything," she continued.

The Boston Inspectional Services Department has sent an inspector to the scene. NBC10 Boston has reached out to OSHA.
