Investigation Underway After 17-Year-Old Killed in Crash on Martha's Vineyard

A 17-year-old boy was killed in a crash on Martha's Vineyard on Friday morning.

Massachusetts State Police say troopers responded to the scene on Middle Road near Tea Road in Chilmark just before 8 a.m., where they found a vehicle that had left the road.

The driver, identified as Jake S. Baird of Oak Bluffs, was found dead as a result of his injuries. Two of his passengers, who were not identified, had minor injuries and were taken to Martha's Vineyard Hospital.

Investigators said Baird was driving on Middle Road when his vehicle approached a curve and then swerved on both sides of the roadway, left the road, hit a tree and went down an embankment before it came to a rest.

The crash remains under investigation.
