The Island Caribbean Cuisine and Drinks Opens in Former Ferry Street Food and Drink Space in Malden

by Marc Hurwitz

A Caribbean restaurant has opened in a "haunted" space where a dining and drinking spot had been until it closed last summer.

According to a post from Eater Boston, The Island Caribbean Cuisine and Drinks is now open in Malden, taking over the old Ferry Street Food and Drink space. The menu shows such offerings as jerk chicken, fried pork with Creole seasoning, sauteed red snapper, grilled quail, baked tilapia, and vegetable soup with goat meat, while also including a children's menu and a Sunday brunch menu as well.

Ferry Street Food and Drink, which shut down in July of 2017, was known in part for its New American fare and craft cocktails, and its website once mentioned that the space in which it resided could be haunted, saying that a customer at the old Jimmy O'Keefe's Restaurant there "died in a slip down the basement stairs" and "is rumored to be seen sitting in his regular stool."

The address for The Island Caribbean Cuisine and Drinks is 118 Ferry Street, Malden, MA, 02148. Its website can be found at http://www.theislandmalden.com/
