Thunderstorms Expected for Some in Afternoon, Others Face Heat Wave

We had four warm and dry days in a row and although we continue the warmth on Thursday, it's not going to be completely dry.

Our dry streak comes to an end as two weather fronts are set to impact New England Thursday. In eastern New England, we have a boundary between some relatively cool air that backed into Maine and eastern Massachusetts.

To our west in New York, there is a front generating thunderstorms on the back edge of the hot weather that has been here the last few days.

On Wednesday and the day before, many spots at 90 degrees. If we do that again today then it’s a heat wave. It may happen for a few, but not many.

Coastal fog is dissipating to partial sunshine at the beaches. Otherwise, we can expect building clouds with a chance of showers and thunderstorms by mid-day in the afternoon.

High temperature will be well into the 80s and a few spots may touch 90 degrees. It will be much cooler along the coast in eastern Massachusetts and the state of Maine.

Humidity is as high as it’s been all week, with dewpoint temperatures in the 60s to near 70 degrees.

We stay sticky Thursday night with showers and thunderstorms continuing. Coastal fog will redevelop and low temperatures are slated to be in the 60s and 70s.

The front from the west has low pressure developing on it that will enhance rainfall late Thursday night and Friday morning, perhaps spotty flash flooding to start our Friday. Will have partial clearing in western New England, but showers and storms will continue east on Friday.

Very sticky with dewpoints will be near 70 degrees and high temperatures are slated to be in 70s and 80s under mostly cloudy skies. Drier air begins to arrive Friday night, with partial clearing and patchy fog. Low temps will be in the 60s.

We are on the backside of the front with less humid air, but we can still expect a hot Saturday. We face partly to mostly sunny skies and decreasing humidity, high temperature in the 80s to 90 degrees.

A weak front from Canada may bring in some clouds with a chance for a shower or thunderstorm west and north Sunday afternoon. But for most, however, it looks like a nice day. High temperature in the 80s with lower humidity.

Monday features high pressure from Canada with seasonable temperatures. Highs in the 80s and low humidity, a beauty.

It’s a different story in the deep south, where tropical storm Barry may strengthen to a hurricane before making landfall sometime in the next 48 hours near Louisiana. Devastating rainfall on top of an already flooded Mississippi river will be the biggest story. But also a storm surge will be pushing the water back up the river.

The remnant of Barry may come our way, but it’s not until late next week, when we're expecting to be hot, to record hot, the second half of the week.
