Severe Thunderstorm Warnings for Areas Across New England

A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for several areas across New England. Click here for the full list.

The storms come after a busy morning with heavy rain, lightning and thunder due to a warm front that approached the area. Showers did pull away for a time Saturday, but more storms are in the forecast this afternoon and evening as a cold front sweeps through the region.

The muggy airmass will trigger the potential for scattered strong to severe thunderstorms with downpours, damaging wind and hail being the primary threats.

The highest risk for severe weather is for towns along and south of route 2 in Massachusetts. Highs today will range between the low 70s in the Cape and Islands and closer to 90 degrees inland.

Behind the cold front, temperatures drop though the humidity sticks around to start the day. Highs will be in the 70s with dew points decreasing by afternoon. There will be a cool pool of air aloft which will increase the instability over New England so occasional downpours and storms develop late morning with a chance for large hail and damaging gusts. It is certainly an active weekend weather-wise, so you’ll have to stay up to date with our app and watch the radar, especially if your plans take you outside. There’s even a potential for a waterspout over the lake or ocean.

The first week of July looks fairly quiet especially Monday, as high pressure is in control and humidity is low. Temperatures will mostly be in the 70s with a light breeze.

A typical summer pattern will be in place with an afternoon pop-up shower or storm possible from Tuesday into Thursday, our Independence Day forecast looks might fine for outdoor fun and fireworks.
