Taunton Police Investigate 2 Fatal Crashes in 2 Days

Police in Taunton, Massachusetts, are investigating two fatal pedestrian-involved crashes in just two days.

On Friday, Taunton police were dispatched to the site of a pedestrian-involved crash on Route 138 in the area of Cumberland Farms. The victim, a 68-year-old Taunton resident, was transported to Morton Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

A preliminary investigation found that the pedestrian had been struck while attempting to cross the roadway. His identity is being withheld pending notification of his family.

The driver was identified as 42-year-old Edna Leandres of Taunton.

This comes just a day after another fatal crash in Taunton, which happened in the Industrial Park just before 8 a.m. on Nov. 30.

A pedestrian, 54-year-old Jeannine Blanchard of Swansea, Massachusetts, was struck while crossing the roadway from an employee parking lot.

The driver was identified as 57-year-old Rene Diaz of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. Blanchard was later pronounced dead as a result of injuries she sustained in the crash.

Both crashes are under investigation by the Taunton Police Department's Crash Reconstruction Unit.
