FIRST ALERT: Tuesday Morning Commuters May See Snow

The table has been set for some winter weather across New England on Tuesday morning

A lot of folks are waiting for winter to start, or rather, after the early start around Thanksgiving, to return.

You may not have to wait too long. The pattern is getting busier, and there will be more opportunities for wintry weather.

First thing’s first, though; that wind from Sunday did more than sway the trees and send the temperatures into a tailspin. It also set the table for some winter weather Tuesday morning across New England. Although the cold will eventually relent and the storm system is fairly weak, there may be small accumulations of snow and delays for the early Tuesday commute.

Another storm that slammed into California Sunday is positioned to come through on Wednesday morning. Although it may lose some of its steam crossing the country, it should strengthen when it crosses New England. As it does, it will pile on the snow far to the north and perhaps create a switchover from rain to snow across Southern New England. While accumulations will be muted and slight across Massachusetts, accumulations could be near a half foot far to the north.

Deep winter cold will follow and settle the pattern down toward the end of the week. Highs will struggle to get out of the 20s as arctic air dives south.
