Shelter-in-Place Order Lifted After Gun Clip is Found on School Property

A shelter-in-place order has been lifted at a Massachusetts high school where a gun clip was found on Monday morning.

The gun clip was found in the dugout of the softball field at Quabbin Regional Middle-High School in Barre, according to Superintendent Maureen Marshall, who notified parents in a district-wide phone message.

"This morning a member of the grounds maintenance staff found a loaded gun clip in the dugout on the softball field. Both the Barre and State Police are on scene," Marshall said in her message.

She went on to say that although no firearm was found, police were "proceeding with an abundance of caution".

The shelter-in-place was lifted around 11:30 a.m. after a thorough search of the buildings, grounds and student backpacks revealed no further cause for concern.

Classes are back in session, with a normal dismissal.

"Thank you to the parents and guardians for your patience and understanding as we awaited information from the law enforcement agencies involved," the school said on Facebook.
