Cape Cod High School Football Player Airlifted After Being Injured in Practice

A high school football player was airlifted off Cape Cod after suffering a severe injury during practice, according to officials.

The injury was reported around 4 p.m. Tuesday to fire officials in Bourne, Massachusetts. A Boston MedFlight helicopter took him from the Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical High School to a Rhode Island hospital.

The student's injuries are severe but not life-threatening, fire officials said.

The incident took place on the school's football field.

There was no immediate word on the nature of the injury. Around 8:45 p.m.,  Superintendent Robert Dutch said the student was moving his limbs.
