Democratic Rep. Lori Trahan — who represents the state's 3rd Congressional District including Lowell, Lawrence and Haverhill — was appointed Tuesday to a seat on the House Armed Services Committee.

Trahan also gave her first speech on the floor of the House of Representatives on Tuesday.
Trahan, who opposes President Donald Trump's proposed border wall, called for an end to the partial federal government shutdown.
