An Apple app intended to bring more people facing backlash for doing just that — even without permission.
A bug in Apple's popular group FaceTime feature let contacts access people's microphones and, in some cases, cameras, even if a recipient didn't accept a call.
"I think it's very scary," one iPhone user said outside the Apple Store in Boston on Tuesday night.
Apple said Tuesday it had disabled the group FaceTime feature and was working on a fix to the bug.
"It's why we need to be careful with the first generation of any new technology, because not everything has been tested out to the fullest, and it's only when it gets out to the consumer environment that you start to find these sort of issues," said David Gerzof Richard, a professor at Emerson College.
