Veteran Lynn, Mass. Police Officer Charged With OUI After Crash

A veteran police officer in Massachusetts was arrested this weekend and charged with OUI after a crash, authorities confirmed Wednesday.

Lt. James Shinnick has been with the Lynn Police Department since 1993. He was arrested early Sunday morning, according to the department. The Essex County District Attorney's Office confirms the arrest happened after a minor crash on Route 1 southbound that did not result in injuries.

Police say Shinnick performs "administrative duties" and will continue to do so pending the outcome of the investigation.

The department added, however, that it is reviewing investigative reports and are working to determine his duty status.

Shinnick is expected to be arraigned Thursday in Peabody District Court on his first offense OUI charge, the DA's office said. He was released on personal recognizance.

It was not immediately clear if he had an attorney.
