According to the latest national poll from Quinnipiac University, things are getting awfully close between the top two candidates in the Democratic primary.
Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts is essentially tied with former Vice President Joe Biden based on the polling information released Wednesday.
Warren gets 27 percent of the vote, while Biden gets 25 percent among Democratic voters and independents who lean Democrat, according to the poll.
"Though well within the margin of error, this is the first time that a candidate other than Biden has had the numerical lead in the primary since Quinnipiac began asking the question in March," the university said.
Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders came in at 16 percent, followed by South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg at 7 percent and California Sen. Kamala Harris at 3 percent. No other candidate is polling above 2 percent.
In August's poll, Biden led Warren by a 32-19 margin, with Sanders in third at 15 percent. Warren's largest gains have been among white voters with a college degree, according to the poll.
Both Biden and Warren have better favorability ratings than former candidate Hillary Clinton did at this stage in the 2016 election cycle. Clinton's favorability at this stage was 41 percent positive and 55 percent negative among registered voters, but Biden's is 45-45 and Warren is at 39-41.
