Weekend Warm-Up With Some Showers Overnight

Be on the lookout for storms coming next week

It was a chilly start to our Saturday morning, but we’ll see temperatures spike into the mid to upper 40s today, with most of northern New England stretching above freezing. The gusty, southwest wind is ushering in our weekend warm-up, with gusts upwards of 35 mph at times, especially along the southern coastline. The rest of the weekend remains on the mild side, even the overnight as clouds build in ahead of a line of showers. Overnight lows only slip to near 40 south, 30s north. The rain lingers into the early morning hours of our Sunday morning with some residual fog reducing visibility for anyone traveling Sunday morning.

The precipitation clears from northwest to southeast over the course of the morning, with drier conditions sliding in by the afternoon. Everyone receives unseasonable warmth across New England with high temperatures stretching to lower 50s southeast, mid to upper 40s elsewhere. Monday brings all of us back to reality with high temperatures in the 30s across New England as a cold front slides in late Sunday into early Monday morning.

Most locations will remain dry Monday, with a slight chance for some snow showers clipping the coastline late Monday evening into early Tuesday as a coastal low passes just off the coast, but remaining out to sea. That will keep us in the cold with a chance for snow showers Tuesday evening as well, but expected accumulation remains low. Wednesday brings drier, but colder conditions across the region with highs near 30. Another disturbance lines up, passing just to the north of New England, but has enough energy to bring snow showers for northern New England.

Groundhog Day Friday brings mostly cloudy skies and a chance for a wintry mix to snow showers for southern New England, which could make for messy travel. High temperatures stretch to near 40. Next weekend brings much colder weather compared to this weekend with highs in the 20s and 30s. Super Bowl Sunday remains dry for now with a system likely sliding in by Monday with a mix of snow and rain. We’ll keep an eye on that as we get closer. In the meantime, stay tuned for the very latest weather updates on the air, online, and on the go the NBC Boston / NECN app.
