This morning it was a snowy and slick commute for most of New England. As this system exits to our northeast, the rain and the snow will end from west to east, with most of New England under dry conditions by the afternoon.
Snowfall totals in southern New England ranged from 1.6” in Newton, Massachusetts, to just under 1” for Boston. More accumulation was seen farther north and west of the city with Fitchburg and Nashua, New Hampshire getting at least 4” of snow by mid-morning.
Snow showers will start to wrap up by the afternoon and evening for northern New England with pockets of central N.H. and Maine topping out at least 8” of snow with locally higher amounts in higher elevations.
As for tonight, temperatures will drop into the mid to upper 20s overnight, which will allow for refreezing, especially on overpasses, wet roads and sidewalks, so you will still need to plan ahead for another slow commute for Tuesday morning. Tuesday brings peeks of sunshine with high temperatures near 40° before cold front No. 1 sweeps in from the northwest ushering in the first cold batch of air. For Tuesday night into early Wednesday a chance for scattered snow showers for southern New England with a light dusting possible for Wednesday morning. However, the coldest punch moves in for Thursday and Friday as cold front No. 2 and No. 3 sweep on in with high temperatures into the lower 20s and upper teens with overnight lows dropping into the single digits.
The last weekend before Christmas brings a slight warm-up with a chance for rain/snow showers Saturday, with drier and more seasonable conditions by Sunday.
