Man Arrested After Allegedly Shooting Someone Multiple Times Over $10 Debt

Asa Cooper, 28, of Dorchester, is facing charges for allegedly shooting a 43-year-old man in Woburn over a $10 debt

Police are investigating a shooting they say happened after an argument broke out over a $10 debt.

Asa Cooper, 28, of Dorchester, is accused of shooting a man just after midnight Saturday morning outside a home on Highland Street in Woburn, Massachusetts.

Cooper is charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing injury, assault to murder with a firearm, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, possession of a firearm without a license, and illegal possession of ammunition.

Police say Cooper and the victim know each other and were fighting over a $10 debt when the argument quickly escalated.

Witnesses told police a group of people was standing outside of the home when they were approached by another group that included Cooper inside of a minivan.

The van had a logo with the business name “One Call” on the side and had a “school bus” sign on the roof.

The argument ensued over the $10 debt, and the victim was shot multiple times.

Police say upon arrival they found the victim, a 43-year-old Woburn man, suffering from two gunshot wounds to his legs. He was transported to a local hospital with injuries that are believed to be non-life-threatening.

The group in the minivan fled the scene after the shooting.

A short time later, Stoneham and Massachusetts State Police located the van on the on-ramp to Interstate 93 southbound in Woburn.

There were four people inside the van, including Cooper who was a passenger.

An investigation revealed Cooper was allegedly involved in the shooting and he was placed under arrest.

The other three people in the van were not arrested, but the van was seized as evidence and towed from the scene.

Authorities say no weapons have been recovered.

Cooper is being held pending his arraignment Tuesday in Woburn District Court. It’s unclear if he has an attorney.

The shooting remains under investigation.
