Woman Pronounced Dead in Norton I-495 Crash

A woman has died as a result of the two-car crash that shut down I-495 in Norton, Massachusetts Saturday night.

One of the cars involved veered off of the road and struck a tree, which led to the death of a 49-year-old woman from Taunton that was riding in the passenger seat. The driver of that car, a 46-year-old Taunton man, was brought to Rhode Island Hospital by helicopter with life-threatening injuries, state police said.

The crash closed the highway in both directions Saturday night, Massachusetts State Police said. It happened on the northbound side.

The MedFlight landing caused officials to close the highway in both directions.

Norton EMA announced that the southbound lanes had reopened just before 11 p.m. Saturday after the MedFlight was loaded.
