Woodburn Says Voters Will Decide if He Stays in Senate

The New Hampshire Democrat is facing domestic violence charges

A state senator facing domestic violence charges says his focus is on continuing to do his job.

Democrat Jeff Woodburn, of Whitefield, returned to the Statehouse on Thursday for veto override day after fending off a write-in challenge in Tuesday's primary. All but one of his fellow Democrats in the Senate urged him to resign after his arrest last month, but Woodburn told NHPR that the only people he's expecting support from are his constituents.

Woodburn has pleaded not guilty to nine charges alleging he struck and bit a woman, and kicked in the door of her home. He stepped down from his position as Senate minority leader.

Woodburn faces Republican David Starr of Franconia in November.
