Worcester Man Pleads Guilty to Manslaughter in Strangulation Death

Prosecutors said an ex-girlfriend of the suspect told investigators he had choked her several times with a necktie during sex

A Massachusetts man has pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of involuntary manslaughter in the strangulation death of a woman in his Leominster apartment.

James Vaillancourt faces 15 to 17 years in prison under terms of a plea deal entered Monday in Worcester Superior Court.

Prosecutors said the partially nude body of Corrinna Santiago was found in 2017, a man's necktie secured around her neck.

According to court documents, police went to Vaillancourt's apartment after the 51-year-old former school custodian walked into a hospital emergency room and told staff he believed he had hurt someone.

Prosecutors said Vaillancourt later told police that he had blacked out and woke to find the woman dead.

Prosecutors said an ex-girlfriend of Vaillancourt told investigators he had choked her several times with a necktie during sex.
