A Massachusetts man police say fatally beat and stabbed his mother in their home has been indicted on a murder charge.
A grand jury handed up an indictment Thursday charging 27-year-old John Madulka, of Worcester, with the death of 56-year-old Ellen Madulka on Dec. 30.
Prosecutors say the suspect hit his mother 10 times with a metal object and stabbed her multiple times. Madulka's father called 911 to say his son called him and told him he had killed his mother. Investigators found the younger man at a nearby Dunkin' Donuts.
He was previously charged in a district court and committed for a psychiatric evaluation. A clinician said he had a history of mental illness.
His lawyer previously said Madulka was "tremendously sick" at the time of the slaying.
