Young Girl Accidentally Shot by Neighbor Cleaning Shotgun

Police say a 4-year-old girl was accidentally shot in her bed by an upstairs neighbor cleaning his shotgun in Rhode Island.

Providence Police say 22-year-old Lisandro Vicario Rodriguez was cleaning the shotgun around early Friday. Online court records do not list an attorney who could comment on Rodriguez’s behalf.

Major David Lapatin says the bullet went through the floor and the ceiling of the girl’s bedroom before hitting her in the left side of her chest while she slept.

The girl was treated at Hasbro Children’s Hospital and released later Friday morning.

Lapatin told The Providence Journal Rodriguez is being charged with concealing a felony because he asked the girl’s father not to call police. He also faces charges of firing in a compact area, criminal negligence and assault.
