Coast Guard Member Appears to Flash White Power Hand Signal on TV

While a Coast Guard captain was being interviewed about Tropical Storm Florence on MSNBC Friday, another staff member visible on camera appeared to flash a white power hand gesture, NBC News reported.

He is no longer on the Florence response team and the incident is being investigated, Coast Guard Lt. J.B. Zorn said, though the man hasn't been identified and officials did not discuss possible disciplinary action.

"Whatever that symbol means, it doesn't reflect the Coast Guard and our core values," Zorn said. "It won't be tolerated."

The gesture may have started as an online troll campaign, but it's become used by supporters of the so-called "alt-right" to goad liberals with the suggestion of white nationalism.
