Emma Gonzalez Captivates in Moment of Silence

People on both sides of the gun control debate took to social media after a doctored animation and photo appeared to show one of the most prominent survivors of the Florida school shooting tearing up the Constitution.

The image of Emma Gonzalez was doctored from "Teen Vogue" in which she ripped up a shooting range target.

The doctored animation, and news stories about it, were shared nearly 70,000 times on social media.

Supporters of the Second Amendment pointed to the image as evidence that gun control supporters are going too far.

Among those who shared the phony photo was Eagles of Death Metal frontman Jesse Hughes, who survived the terrorist attack during his band's concert at the Bataclan theater in Paris in 2015.

He accused Gonzalez of being "the Awful Face of Treason" and a "survivor of Nothing" before deleting the Instagram post, NBC News reported

Gun control supporters, meanwhile, expressed outrage when the image was shown to be fake.

Gonzalez spoke with other Parkland, Florida, students on Saturday at the March for Our Lives protest in Washington to demand action on gun control.

In one of the most striking moments from event, Gonzalez stopped her speech suddenly and stood in silence for several minutes until an alarm beeped.

"Since the time that I came out here, it has been six minutes and 20 seconds. The shooter has ceased shooting and will soon abandon his rifle, blend in with the students as they escape and walk free for an hour before arrest," she said. "Fight for your lives before it's someone else's job."

Parkland Shooting Survivor Calls 'BS' on Politicians' Gun Stance

[NATL] Parkland Shooting Survivor Calls 'BS' on Politicians' Gun Stance

Marjory Stoneman Douglas High senior Emma Gonzalez had a message for president Donald Trump and for other politicians on their failure to enact sensible gun laws: "BS." Gonzalez was one of several survivors to speak at a rally held outside the Federal Courthouse in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to speak out against the gun lobby.

It's not the first time that Gonzalez has faced criticism since coming to prominence for "calling BS" on politicians during a gun control rally in the days after 17 people were killed in the attack on her school.

Rep. Steve King's (R-Iowa) Facebook page for his campaign took issue with the Cuban flag on Gonzalez's jacket at Saturday's march.

Republican Maine House candidate Leslie Gibson earlier derided Gonzalez as a "skinhead lesbian." He later dropped out of the race amid backlash over the insult.
