Family of Slain NH Couple Reacts to Reported Arrest

James and Michelle Butler were well-loved members of the Rumney, New Hampshire, community, and their niece is still digesting the latest development in the investigation into their killing — an arrest of a man believed to be connected. (Published Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2019)

A man and woman are in custody in connection with the death of a New Hampshire couple found in a shallow grave last month in Texas, authorities confirmed Thursday.

Richard Kirkpatrick, sheriff of Kleberg County, Texas, told reporters Adam Curtis Williams was in police custody being held on a $1 million bond.

Williams' girlfriend, Amanda Noverr, was in custody in Mexico awaiting deportation to Houston, Kirkpatrick said. Williams and Noverr had warrants out for their arrest for felony theft.

Kleberg County Sheriff's Office online records show Williams, a 33-year-old Utah resident, was being held on charges of theft of property and assault on a peace officer or judge amid the ongoing investigation.

Bond would be set at $1 million for Noverr as well, according to Kirkpatrick.

Noverr's 3-year-old child is with her in Mexico awaiting deportation.

Williams' arrest comes about two weeks after James Butler, 48, and Michelle Butler, 46, were reported missing. The Butlers, of Rumney, New Hampshire had been traveling the United States in an RV since last year, and their deaths left family members heartbroken.

"It's just shock. Everything's just shock," their niece, Hayley Van Loon, told NBC10 Boston.

This week, authorities released a surveillance photo of Williams and Noverr crossing into Mexico and issued an arrest warrant on felony theft charges for Williams. Officials believed the pair had contact with the Butlers.

"We are hopeful that this will lead us to one more step to finding out what can be done about this. No one should have to go through this," Van Loon said.

The couple reported missing on Oct. 23 were found dead four days later.
