A woman from Monson, Maine was arrested after Somerset County Sheriff’s deputies found nearly 100 grams of fentanyl powder in her car following a traffic stop, according to WCSH-TV.
Officials obtained a drug search warrant for Destiny Alton, 37, for her house and her vehicle. Just before 2 p.m. Saturday, Alton was seen driving on Spring Hill Road despite her right to drive in the state being suspended.
She initially refused to yield for the sheriff’s deputies and her passenger, 31-year-old Andrew Veysey, switched places with her. It is unknown if the switch was made when the car was in motion.
After halting the vehicle, officials performed a search in her car and found 98 grams of fentanyl powder in the vehicle, which is enough to kill 49,000 people, according to the federal Drug Enforcement Agency. Officials also found 41 Xanax pills, crack cocaine, more than $4,750 in cash, digital scales and drug-related paraphernalia in the vehicle.
Alton was arrested and charged with aggravated trafficking. Veysey was charged with operating a motor vehicle while suspended. It's unclear if she has an attorney.
