Will.I.Am, Meek Mill, Ava DuVernay Among Celebs Condemning West to Task for Slavery ‘Sounds Like a Choice' Remark

Performer Will.I.Am, celebrated director Ava DuVernay and even recently freed rapper Meek Mill, are among those slamming West

Kanye West, who ignited a firestorm Tuesday during an interview with "TMZ Live" when he said 400 years of slavery "sounded like a choice" while revealing a past addiction to opioids, is finding little cover among many of his fellow celebrities.

Many, including performer Will.I.Am, celebrated director Ava DuVernay and even recently freed rapper Meek Mill, are condemning West for his views on slavery.

But at least one fellow performer, The Game, spoke out in West's defense.

The NAACP also weighed in, saying on Twitter that, "There is a lot of misinformation out there and we are happy to provide insight. Black people have fought against slavery since we first landed on this continent."

In a series of tweets late Tuesday, West attempted to clarify his comments to TMZ, saying "Of course I know that slaves did not get shackled and put on a boat by free will." He added: "My point is for us to have stayed in that position even though the numbers were on our side means that we were mentally enslaved."
