North Haven, Conn. Deadly Shooting, Related Car Crash Close Parts of Route 40

Police have identified the victim of the fatal shooting.

Officials are investigating a fatal shooting in North Haven and a related car crash with injuries in Hamden on Saturday.

State police said they received reports of shots fired in the area of the Route 40 Exit 1 on-ramp in North Haven around 11:20 a.m.

Troopers are working with North Haven police and Hamden police to investigate the incident.

North Haven police said they learned shots were fired from one vehicle into a second vehicle and someone was struck by gunfire.

Emergency crews were called for medical assistance, but police said the person was later pronounced dead at the scene. Police have identified him as 28-year-old, Davonte Warren, of New Haven.

North Haven firefighters also said they treated injuries related to the shooting in multiple nearby locations.

During this time, a fleeing car from a nearby town disregarded police that had shut down Route 40 at Whitney Avenue in Hamden and collided with another vehicle, firefighters said. This caused a serious crash and there were multiple injuries, authorities added.

The driver of the fleeing vehicle ran from the scene and was pursued by officers, police said.

The exit 1 on-ramp and Route 40 at Whitney Avenue were closed but have since reopened.

The investigation is ongoing.
