Trump Immigration Order Triggers Protests Across US

Demonstrations formed at airports across the United States Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017, in response to President Trump's travel ban of immigrants from seven Muslim-majority countries. The protests continue to Sunday, Jan. 29, at airports and other places across the U.S. Trump's executive order barred all refugees from entering the United States for four months, and indefinitely halted any from Syria. Trump argued the ban is needed to keep out "radical Islamic terrorists." Saturday night, a federal judge from the Eastern District of New York granted an injunction in response to a request filed by the American Civil Liberties Union and other legal organizations on behalf of individuals subject to the immigration ban. The stay blocks anyone with a valid visa being held at airports from being deported. The stay applies only to those currently within the U.S., but not to anyone who tries to come to the U.S. going forward. And it does not mean detainees will be released, only that they can't be deported, according to ACLU attorneys.
