Team USA's Murphy Qualifies; Canada's Kingsbury Untouchable in Men's Moguls

Team USA's Troy Murphy was one of 10 to qualify for finals in the first round of moguls competition

Canadian Mikael Kingsbury, the heavy favorite for Olympic gold in men's moguls, had no problem with the first round of qualifying. His score of 86.07 was far and away the top mark of the contest.

Kingsbury, who won a silver medal at the 2014 Winter Olympics, has advanced into the first round of the finals along with the rest of the top ten from Thursday's qualifying round, including Team USA's Troy Murphy.

Murphy earned a score of 80.95 points, 5.12 behind Kingsbury's score of 86.07.

Three other American skiers finished outside the top 10 and now look to earn a spot in the finals by way of Monday's second qualifying run, scheduled for 5:30 a.m. ET. Casey Andringa and Bradley Wilson each received a 75.25 to place 14th and 15th, respectively, while Emerson Smith was 22nd by virtue of the 72.59 he earned from the judges.

Results

The top 10 skiers from the first qualifying round have automatically advanced straight to the first round of finals. The remaining 20 skiers will compete in a second qualifying round on Monday, and the top 10 from that round will also move on to the first round of finals.
