Report: New England Patriots Reworking Tom Brady's Contract

The team is looking to add up to $5 million in performance-based incentives to the quarterback's contract by Friday

The New England Patriots are expected to rework Tom Brady's current contract, according to an ESPN report.

ESPN's Adam Schefter tweeted Thursday that the team is working to add "a variety of performance-based incentives to bring him closer to market," similar to what they did for tight end Rob Gronkowski last year.

Brady is currently scheduled to earn $15 million this year. That's more than $10 million less than the $27.5-million per year Brady's former backup, Jimmy Garropolo, will earn over the next five years from the San Francisco 49ers.

Schefter said the Patriots are expected to officially add "up to $5 million" in incentives to Brady's contract sometime Thursday or Friday.
