Cristiano Ronaldo is officially heading to Manchester, but he will be wearing red instead of blue.

A move to Manchester City was previously reported as a "done deal" on Thursday. Instead, rival Manchester United confirmed on Friday that the Portuguese megastar will be returning to Old Trafford.

Ronaldo's Juventus contract was set to run out next June.

Ronaldo has earned five Ballon d’Ors, five Champions League titles, seven league titles and over 30 major trophies throughout his career. He won three Premier League titles during his first stint with United from 2003 to 2009, scoring 118 goals in 292 games.

He began his career with Sporting CP at 17 years old before joining United in 2003. The forward moved to Real Madrid in 2009 and played for the Spanish club until 2018, when he joined Juventus. Ronaldo helped lead the Italian juggernaut to two Serie A titles over three seasons.

Among Ronaldo’s new teammates with United will be fellow Portuguese star Bruno Fernandes, who was third in the Premier League with 18 goals during the 2020-21 campaign.

Ronaldo is one of two all-time icons to switch teams in a three-week span. Lionel Messi moved to Paris St. Germain earlier this month after 21 years with FC Barcelona.
