A dramatic new video shows just how fast using a turkey fryer can lead to an uncontrollable blaze.
The video, staged by the National Fire Protection Association and the Consumer Product Safety Commission, shows a turkey being dipped into an overfilled fryer, and then exploding into flames. The flames quickly catch onto the wood of the model home's porch, and turn into a raging fire.
The organizations released the video ahead of Thanksgiving to educate people on the potential dangers of using a turkey fryer.
"The NFPA strongly discourages the use of turkey fryers," it said.
Thanksgiving is the peak day for home cooking fires, followed by the day before Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. and Christmas Eve, the organization said.
Cooking equipment was involved in almost half of all reported home fires and home fire injuries, and it is the second leading cause of home fire deaths, it added.
