BOSTON - The World Series champion Red Sox have scheduled their visit to the White House for Feb. 15, a team spokesperson said Tuesday.
The Sox will already have their spring training activities underway in Fort Myers, Fla., at the time of the trip, with the first workout for pitchers and catchers scheduled for Feb. 13.
The trip is a tradition for major U.S. sports teams that win championships. The Sox visited the White House most recently in 2014, after winning the 2013 World Series. The visit too creates an opportunity for players or other team personnel to potentially send a political message, if they so choose.
Sox manager Alex Cora defended his native Puerto Rico in September after comments made by President Donald Trump.
Cora said in December he would use the platform "the right way."

The White House hosted the Clemson Tigers on Monday amidst the government shutdown, and offered the college athletes a spread of fast food.
