Sunday will be summer-like in the upper 80s. (Published Sunday, Sept. 24, 2017)

If you enjoyed yesterday’s warm-up under plenty of sunshine, you will certainly love the forecast for the next few days.

Today, highs will be near record-breaking territory, but mainly in locations away from the coastline. We have a seabreeze that develops by the afternoon along the coast that will keep those locations into the upper 70s to low 80s, while areas farther inland reach into the upper 80s. A few locations could even reach 90°.

If you’re heading to Foxboro as the Patriots host the Texans, it will be noticeably summer-like and muggy with temperatures at kickoff into the mid to upper 80s.

Overnight tonight, under mostly clear skies, temperatures only cool off into the 60s. Monday brings another day into the mid to upper 80s under plenty of sunshine.

The reasoning for the quiet weather pattern? Well, the remnants of Jose have continued to weaken and slide farther out to sea, and a dome of high pressure is nestled to the southwest of New England. That is feeding us the warmth that the Midwest felt on Friday, the first day of fall, when cities like Chicago and St. Louis reached into the 90s.

After the dome of high pressure slides off the eastern seaboard, a cold front slides in, ushering in a cool-down along with some rain showers from west to east on Wednesday and Thursday.

The timing of this front is the reason why Hurricane Maria will likely stay away from New England and take a sharp turn out to sea after making a slight turn west closer to the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

However, we’ll still see some higher surf and risk of rip currents by midweek associated with Maria. By Friday, temperatures slip into the 60s for highs and that trend will continue into next weekend as we enter October!

So, enjoy the summery weather while it lasts considering we’ll see a change by midweek and that cool-down will continue into the weekend.
