Winter continues to make its last stand across New England, just two weeks before the official start of spring.

With morning temperatures in the single digits and teens for many on Wednesday, with even some below zero readings in northern New England, highs will only top out in the teens and 20s by the afternoon. There will be plenty of sunshine in most cases, but there may be a stray flurry or snow shower, especially in western or northern New England.

The cold continues on Thursday, with basically a repeat of Wednesday, before we pop into the 30s on Friday.

There is a weak disturbance that will mainly glide to the south of New England Friday night into Saturday morning, but it may clip us with a few rain or snow showers. We’ll have to keep an eye on where that tracks.

Regardless, even if we do hear from that system, it quickly moves out on Saturday so most of the daylight hours will be dry with highs in the 30s to near 40.

Don’t forget that we "spring forward" while most of us sleep Saturday night into Sunday morning. We’ll lose an hour of sleep, but sunsets will be close to 7 p.m. after the time change.

Sunday brings another batch of both rain and snow showers, with the wintry mix and snow most likely away from the coast across interior sections of New England. Highs will end up in the 30s and 40s.

Next week turns a little more spring-like, with highs in the 40s to near 50 on Monday. Temperatures will drop briefly Tuesday into Wednesday, but by late week there are signs of a more appreciable warm up. Temperatures up to the 50s are possible by then.
