Flooding (both fresh water and salt water) was an issue Saturday night and Sunday morning. From the New Hampshire seacoast to the Cape, overnight high tides caused minor coastal flooding. Again, this flooding was only caused by the new moon, light onshore flow and rising sea level.

Additional coastal flooding is possible overnight.

Very isolated downpours produced significant flash flooding on the North Shore. Rainfall totals in Peabody and Lynn exceeded eight inches! This is the second serious flash flood event in Lynn in as many years. It appears these heavy rain events are becoming a bit more frequent.

Between 2010 and 2018 there have been seven flash flood events in Lynn. Between 1996 and 2010 there was only one. And between 1950 and 1996 there weren’t any reported flash floods.

With this soupy environment, additional downpours will be common in the coming days. That threat really won’t go away until late week.

Right now, the driest days out of the next 10 look to be Thursday, Friday and possibly Sunday. This forecast will likely change in the coming days, but currently, those look to be the best beach days.

Although it’s been cool over the last couple of days, it has been very humid. Another warm-up is forecast mid to late week with temperatures in the low to mid 80s accompanied by high levels of humidity.
