What to Know
It's getting colder! High temps Thursday will be in the teens and 20s, with wind chill values never warmer than single digits to around 10.
Wednesday night brings a dangerous wind chill, with frostbite possible in just 30 minutes of exposure to bare skin.
There's still a chance of snow this weekend, but the chance of a major storm development is lower than it has been.
Believe it or not, Wednesday's cold is just the start. Another cold front is moving across New England right now with very little fanfare, but a reinforcing push of arctic chill will knock temperatures and wind chill values even lower over the next 24 hours.
After Wednesday, high temperatures will be in the teens and 20s, with wind chill values never warmer than single digits to around 10. Wednesday night brings a dangerous wind chill, with frostbite possible in just 30 minutes of exposure to bare skin as temperatures drop to either side of zero and wind chill values drop between -15 and -30!
The stinging cold will continue on Thursday, even beneath ample sunshine, with the wind chill probably never surpassing zero for most spots and a record cold high temperature possible, even in Boston.
Once the cold arrives, it sticks around for several days, but there may be a trade-off that keeps the weather quieter than it could be for New England — dry air.
For several days we’ve been eyeing a storm potential for Friday night into Saturday. That storm chance still exists, since the energy that would spark it is moving directly overhead, but the chance of a sizeable storm development near New England also is lower than it has been.
That said, there’s enough energy aloft to spark some periodic snow showers and heavier bursts of snow with light accumulation Saturday, and the farther south and east one is — from Boston southeast to the Cape — the closer we’ll be keeping an eye on Saturday evening and night.
Either way, it looks like snow is gone but the cold is fierce for First Night — likely only in the teens by day and single digits by night, with wind chill values around or below zero!
The cold air holds on through the exclusive Early Warning Weather 10-day forecast, but the chance of snow increases again by late next week.
