We have a rather challenging weekend forecast in New England.

At low levels of the atmosphere we have relatively cool moist air coming in from the ocean. At higher levels of the atmosphere we have warm-to-hot humid air coming in from the west. Additionally we have a lack of significant pressure gradient, keeping our wind light and variable, but mostly in from off the ocean.

That makes it more difficult to burn the fog off. So we have to wait a few hours, especially at the seashore, until the sun can get high enough in the sky for the low clouds and fog to break. Visibility is very poor at the ocean to start the day, but should improve by noon time. Away from the coast, fog should burn off a little quicker, with a mixture of sun and clouds and a chance of a thunderstorm. The tide is high early this afternoon.

For most of us it’s a dry Saturday, high temperature 80 to 85 degrees inland, 70s at the shore.

Regardless of the weather, it’s always a good day to adopt a pet: today we participate in Clear the Shelters day.

There is little change Saturday night and Sunday, with more fog developing overnight and a low in the 60s.

It will be a very sticky day Sunday for the Falmouth Road Race, with mostly cloudy skies and patchy dense fog to start off, then breaks of sunshine, high temperatures near 90 degrees in western New England with a chance of a thunderstorm. But still only in the 70s near the beach in eastern New England, where limited sunshine is possible.

There will be very little wind to speak of Sunday, other than an onshore breeze.

A warm front should finally move north of New England Sunday night, putting us on the hot side of things Monday.

With partly to mostly sunny skies, there's just a slight chance for an afternoon storm, high temperature in the 90s for most of New England, a little cooler at the seashore.

Tuesday also looks like a partly to mostly sunny day with a high temperature in the 90s.

The next front likely comes in Wednesday with a chance of some pretty strong thunderstorms, high temperature close to 90 degrees. Later in the week and next weekend should feature some less humid air with a return to partly to mostly sunny skies and less humidity.
