Cloudy as Rain, Snow Develop Across New England

Temperatures have warmed dramatically from the cold of Saturday, all the way up to near 40 degrees later Sunday morning, so it's warm enough that we get rain instead of snow for much of New England this afternoon and overnight.

Clouds are thickening with light rain showers in southern New England by noon, with steady snow developing across from Vermont to New Hampshire and Maine.

By two or three this afternoon, rain will become moderate and snow will become moderate to heavy, with the rain-snow line north of Concord, New Hampshire.

Temperatures rise through to the 30s north, to the 40s south.

Wind from the southeast increases to 20 to 30 mph.

Low pressure tracks across northern New England tonight with the rain-snow line moving north to a line from Montpelier Vermont to Houlton Maine.

Puddles could be quite deep with a difficult travel through midnight.

The snow plows are out in the farthest north higher elevations toward the Canadian border where 4 to 8 inches of snow are likely.

A cold front sweeps offshore early in the morning tomorrow with rapid clearing and windy conditions.

High temperature in the 20s north and 30s south, wind from the northwest 20-30 mph puts the wind chill factor in the teens and single numbers.

High pressure brings us clear sky briefly Monday night with a low temperature in the single numbers north and teens south.

The same cold front will try and return north as a warm front on Tuesday with scattered snow showers and flurries, with high temperature near freezing.

A wave of low-pressure rides into southern New England on Wednesday with snow, or rain or snow near the shore by late morning.

Mixed snow, and snow or rain near the coast, could drop several inches later Wednesday until Wednesday evening, with temperatures holding in the 20s north and 30s south.

There's also the chance that we end up with some freezing rain depending on the temperatures aloft.

Another batch of cold wind blows in Wednesday night and Thursday with temperatures holding below freezing.

Then another one of these systems will send a chance of rain or snow later in the week and to start next weekend.

It's a very active pattern into the foreseeable future.
