    (Published Friday, Feb. 9, 2018)

High pressure, with fresh cold and dry air from Canada crests over New England this morning.

With plenty of sunshine early and lighter wind, temperatures rise quickly for early lows of 10-20 degrees south and 0-10 degrees north.

If you were up early, there was a nice view of the waning crescent moon low to the horizon east of Mars and Jupiter before sunrise.

The day looks quiet with sunshine fading this afternoon, high in the 20s north to low 30s south, wind becomes southwest 10-15 mph.

A warm front moves in from southwest to northeast with a swath of snow this evening and tonight. Temperatures hold in the 20s north and 30s south.

Overnight snowfall of a dusting near the Massachusetts Turnpike to 2-3 inches in the mountains of central and northern New England are possible.

Many of us are on the warmer side of the front this weekend, but the front stalls with clouds and showers possible most of the time. Patchy dense fog and drizzle may also develop.

It's still cold enough for snow in the northern most mountains where another 6 to 8 inches may accumulate over the weekend.

The weather pattern remains quite challenging next week with wall-to-wall cold in southern Canada and warmth trying to spread into New England from the south.

Along this boundary we have waves of low pressure with periods or rain and/or snow, all pretty much every 24-36 hours into next weekend.

It's a very active pattern with low confidence on timing and precipitation types. We will take them one at a time as we get closer to each.
