Today's Snow Clearing Out, But More Snow for Some This Week

A potent coastal system that dropped 2 to 8 inches of snowfall across southern New England this morning will continue to move offshore away from the region today.

Snow tapers west to east this afternoon with moisture availability decreasing and breaks of sun developing. High temperatures today range from the low 30s across the south to mid-20s across the North Country, teens in Maine.

Overnight, clearing continues as drier and colder air moves into across the region. Low temperatures will bottom out in the mid-teens to low 20s across most southern locations and single digits across the north. Wind chill values will fall into the single digits by Wednesday morning. High pressure moves in overhead as New England becomes sandwiched between two developing low pressure centers, one offshore to our east and another located across the Great Lakes. This setup will result in mostly sunny and cold weather for New England with highs reaching into the upper 20s to low 30s, which is colder than normal for this time of year.

High-pressure center's influence diminishes on Thursday as a storm system approaches from the Great Lakes, resulting in a warming return flow from the southwest. Right now, we're expecting mainly rain across southern areas with a mix across central and northern New England.

Highs on Thursday will crest into the mid-40s across Boston to Hartford, Connecticut, and the mid to upper-30s elsewhere north. A cold front will approach our region Thursday night, resulting in a changeover to snow for some as colder air moves in from the west.

Arctic air spills in across New England during the day on Friday. Temperatures fall throughout the day, resulting in the high temperatures likely occurring in the morning in the mid-30s. High pressure slides in behind the front, bringing dry and quiet weather for the rest of the day Friday into Saturday.
