Wednesday evening's storms brought damage to parts of New England, with a tree falling onto a car in Boston.

A cold front from the west and tropical moisture from Tropical Depression Erin to the south will continue to enhance our rainfall potential tonight through the predawn hours Thursday.

Weather Forecast: Highs in 80sWeather Forecast: Highs in 80s

Wednesday night: Rain, thunder and fog, localized flooding. Lows around 70. Thursday: Early morning clouds to sun and warmth. Highs in the 80s.

Rainfall totals will be around 2-3 inches across eastern New England with isolated spots around 5 inches of rainfall. A few thunderstorms may also be embedded in the steady rainfall and there is a low risk for a severe storm with gusty wind.

The waves of rain will continue to impact the evening commute and any shift works overnight with localized flash flooding, standing water on the road, and lower visibility.

In Boston's Jamaica Plain neighborhood, a tree came down on a car. In Medfield, Massachusetts, a pole came down on Route 27, causing the road to close.

The showers start to taper off from west to east around dawn Thursday. The last bit of rain will linger around Cape Cod and Maine through late morning.

By Thursday afternoon the rain is out of here and we break out some sunshine. Temperatures will be in the low 80s with lowering humidity levels later in the day.

Friday brings us a warm up with highs in the mid 80s and less humid air. A weak cold front sweeps through Friday into Saturday, but it is pretty dry so we don’t expect rainfall.

We do expect temperatures to fall to the 70s by the time the weekend rolls around. High 70s Saturday with sunshine, but we cool a bit the lower 70s Sunday into Labor Day.

We also have a system moving in around the holiday, so there is a slightly higher chance for showers. Those showers continue to linger in the forecast through Wednesday. We will dry off towards the end of the 10-day forecast.
