Skaters, Others Have Some Snow Fun

With the first winter storm of the season, several people in Foxboro and other locations had some fun in the snow.

Slick roads. Several crashes. Downed power lines. Shovels and plows scraping the pavement. It's official: winter arrived as the first snow of the season moved through New England on Saturday.

In Foxboro, it was a winter wonderland as several people came to Gillette Stadium. The home of the Patriots is home to an ice rink today as people from around the country came to visit.

"A month ago I was like alright, great, come to Gillette Stadium. It's going to be an awesome time. Then we find out a couple of days before our trip it was going to snow. Severely underestimated how much it snows up here," said Oscar Guzman of Long Island.

In Mansfield, sales were brisk at a Christmas tree sale for Boy Scout troop 51. Some scouts felt that the snow was a good thing.

"What other kind of weather would you sell it in?", said scout Jerry Ridlin

Drivers in Boston Saturday night found roads getting dicier as the snow kept falling.

"They’ve been really slippery," said Tony Dubay of Roslindale. "A lot of slush, real wet heavy snow, rain and snow mix. I’ve been sliding everywhere."

It’s not just drivers getting adjusted to winter weather, it was time for countless people to get out the gear and get back into shoveling.

On Temple Street in West Roxbury, Michael Boucher says this is no big deal but it’s early December.

"I’m ready for it," said Boucher. "Depends how many storms we get. One or two are fine. Seven or eight is too much."

In Wellesley, a local hardware store was busy today as people were making their final preparations for the upcoming winter. Some people were also out shopping for the holiday season.

"It's what New England is all about, right?"
