Flood Fears Prompt Evacuations in Vermont

Dozens of residents in Brattleboro had to be evacuated over fears an ice jam may break

Dozens of residents in southern Vermont are being evacuated due to an ice jam on the Whetstone Brook.
According to the Brattleboro Fire Department, about 50-75 residents of West Brattleboro are being moved to higher ground over fears that the ice jam may break, sending a rush of water towards those living nearby.
The evacuations involve two trailer parks, and Melrose Terrace, a senior housing complex near the brook.
Significant flooding has already been reported on Route 9 in that area.
In nearby Arlington, Vermont, the heavy rain triggered a mudslide that emergency managers said partially blocked Route 7A in Bennington County.
