Friday is the day we try to reach 90 degrees in Boston for the first time this year. Typically we hit 90 around June 8, but this year our first 90 degree day has been delayed.
This evening we will still see some fog on the coast, with low clouds rolling in and out of the coastal towns. Temps fall to the 60s and near dewpoint, meaning patchy fog may develop across inland cities. Scattered showers and storms continue to move through northern Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. Earlier severe storms will lose their intensity as night falls. Decaying showers should reach the Maine coast by dawn.
Friday morning will start off foggy again and mostly cloudy. By afternoon, the heat will be on full blast. A dominant western wind will help to elevate temperatures everywhere, including the coastal towns to near 90 degrees. This will be the best beach day for a while as unsettled weather returns for the weekend.
Saturday begins with rain up north, while it will stay dry in the south. Scattered showers and storms spread south across Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island in the afternoon and some storms may be strong. The rain and storm threat remains through Sunday afternoon as another shortwave enhances our rain and storm chance in eastern New England. We are still uncertain on the exact timing, so stay tuned for further updates. Highs will be in the 80s and humid Saturday while Sunday will be less humid with highs in the 70s.
The holiday week looks mainly sunny with highs in the 80s pretty much each day through the following weekend. There is a chance for an isolated storm around mid-week, but your July Fourth plans should all be just fine!
