Thunderstorms are moving through the Boston area and New England Wednesday afternoon, bringing lightning, potentially damaging wind and even hail.
Severe thunderstorm warnings were issued throughout the afternoon and into the night in much of New England. The storms brought damage, and more than 3,200 customers in Massachusetts were without power as of midnight.
Part of a chimney was blown off a home in Hopkinton, scattering bricks across the yard.
Flights arriving to Boston's Logan International Airport were delayed an average of more than 2 hours late Wednesday afternoon.
Humid and warm air teamed with an upper-level disturbance to touch off showers and thunderstorms — some of which will be damaging — prompting our NBC10 Boston, NECN and Telemundo New England Weather Team to continue a First Alert for most of New England into Wednesday.

The morning started with muggy sun and clouds but by midday, weak showers moving through Connecticut strengthened and expanded as they jogged northeast. A few rounds of showers and thunderstorms will last through the second half of the day, evening and into the overnight.
Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible through the evening across much of Massachusetts, Rhode Island and northern Connecticut, the National Weather Service said. Several were being tracked by the NWS throughout the area.
Heavy rain is a given with all storms, owing to the humid air, but locally damaging wind will occur in stronger storms and a tornado is not entirely impossible, with shifting winds aloft.
The lowest risk of thunderstorms will be southeast Massachusetts and the Cape, where we’ll wait until late evening and night for storms to arrive.
Thursday should start with predawn rain that breaks into isolated showers and thunder as humid air lingers. By Friday, winds of change will carry more comfortable air into New England, but temperatures will remain warm.

Get ready for a fabulous stretch of weather coming in Friday through Sunday. We are expecting low humidity, sunshine and temperatures around 80 degrees. There is an outside chance of a thunderstorm in the mountains Saturday.
The following week looks pleasant. Showers and thunderstorms will be possible, but we will see plenty of sunshine mixed in as temperatures reach the low to mid-80s.
It looks like a similar pattern sets up next week in our exclusive First Alert 10-Day Forecast, with a heightened chance of showers at midweek. This is followed by what could be another great weekend, though right now that’s still just a bit off the 10-day.
